CARLING CUP CHAMPIONS
Manchester United successfully defended the Carling Cup yesterday at Wembley Stadium in a highly entertaining show-down with Aston Villa. However,Aston Villa had started on the right-foot when a penalty was awarded for Martin O'Neill's men and James Milner stuck it into the net.
It had seemed that Sir Alex Ferguson's gamble to keep out Wayne Rooney had failed but Berbatov stole the ball from a sloppy Villa defender, ran towards the goal-line and Micheal Owen successfully scored the rebound.
Then Wayne Rooney was substituted for Owen but Villa held-on to a 1-all draw at half-time. As the 2nd half resumed, Villa took charge of the game as Agbonlahor and Heskey tried their best but were denied by Kuschack.
Wayne Rooney scored the winning goal when he headed in a slick-cross from Antonio Valencia. The victory was special because its the first trophy for new players Valencia and Mame Biram Diouf.
