Internazionale 4 - 0 Bari

Inter stretched their winning run in Serie A to three games with a 4-0 victory over Bari at San Siro.

Diego Milito headed home after great work by Samuel Eto’o during a dominate first half spell from the home side. Eto’o himself doubled the lead from the spot after Marco Rossi incredulously handled a Wesley Sneijder cross soon after half-time, before adding a further penalty midway through the second half. Milito secured a brace of his own by firing home on the break four

minutes from time.

Bari were the side to shoot straight out of

the blocks as Paulo Barreto made great progress down the left and cut the ball back to the edge of the area, from where the marauding Sergio Almiron sent a drive arrowing onto Julio Cesar’s near post.

Inter didn’t let this knock them out of their stride and they generally had the better of the play during the first half. Samuel Eto’o in particular enjoyed a great opening period, destroying Nico Pulzetti on several occasions.

He burst past the full-back and reached the byline before cutting back for Milito, who failed to turn in the chance in the first real opening for the champions. But on 27 minutes, the Cameroonian repeated the trick, and this time Milito was on hand to head the Nerazzurri in front.

Eto’o again left Pulzetti for dead moments later, but Maicon couldn’t get a touch to the ball and it was allowed to flash across the face of goal to Bari’s relief.

Pulzetti again had a hard time of it at the start of the second period, as Wesley Sneijder turned him inside out from a short corner, and when the Dutchman sent a cross in defender Marco Rossi incredibly led with an outstretched hard to pat the ball away. Referee Paolo Mazzoleni had no doubt in his mind that it should be a penalty kick and Samuel Eto’o stepped up to confidently send Jean-Francois Gillet the wrong way.

On 63 minutes Eto’o bagged a second penalty after substitute Emanuel Rivas brought down Lucio in the area. The 3-0 lead far from flattered the Nerazzurri given their sheer dominance to this point.

It was only ever going to get worse for the Galletti, and Dejan Stankovic teed up Diego Milito on the break in the final moments, with the Argentine confidently sending a rising shot beyond Gillet.

The emphatic win sends Rafael Benitez’s side to the top of the table, while Giampiero Ventura will be left wondering why his side failed to show their usual fighting spirit.
